Elevating Patient Care: Dr. O’Brien to Enhance Integrated Health Solutions at Quartet Health
Quartet Health, an industry leader in value-based behavioral healthcare services, is thrilled to announce that Michael R. O’Brien, MD, has joined the organization as Executive Medical Director of Quartet’s Whole Health program. Whole Health by Quartet is a unique, whole-person care delivery solution that features a fully-integrated physical and behavioral health model, providing wraparound care services for people with severe mental illness (SMI) at no additional cost to patients. Dr. O’Brien brings extensive experience and dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery for individuals with severe mental illnesses.
Dr. O’Brien transitions to Quartet Health from his role as Center Medical Director at InnovAge in Philadelphia, with a rich background in clinical practice and healthcare leadership. His previous positions include Senior Medical Director of Clinical Innovation at Clover Health, and Medical Officer at CareMore & Aspire Health.
Passionate about integrated care, Dr. O’Brien has spent much of his career improving services for medically and socially complex populations. His personal and professional journey has equipped him uniquely to drive forward Quartet Health’s mission of providing comprehensive, whole-person care.
Dr. O’Brien obtained his medical degree from SUNY Downstate, completed his Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency at the University of Buffalo, and pursued a Health Services Research Fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.
Reflecting on his new role, Dr. O’Brien said, “I’ve worked with various complex populations my whole career. I have also had challenging personal experiences helping family members with serious mental illness navigate the system. Unfortunately, the larger healthcare system too often fails people with serious mental illness and comorbid medical disease and a new approach is needed. I’m deeply inspired to join Quartet and the Whole Health team to advance and grow our new approach to whole health care for people affected by serious mental illness.”
Dr. Michael Lipp, Chief Medical Officer of Quartet Health and chief architect of the Whole Health program, also welcomed Dr. O’Brien, noting, “Dr. O’Brien’s clinical experience and passion for serving complex, underserved populations was a perfect fit for this program. His leadership will allow us to accelerate the growth of this program, and deepen our ability to deliver high quality, integrated care to our patients.”
